Typed pages giving information on Marple Bridge from the 1861 census returns. After 1850 there was a large influx of Irish born people arriving during the building of the Marple railway.
The typed conclusion indicates that in 1861 there were 100 Irish born people living in Marple Bridge. Of the 57 males, 39 were railway labourers, 10 cotton factory workers, 3 agricultural labourers. In 1851 there had been 39 Irish people living in Marple Bridge working mainly in the textile industry but by 1861 all but one of these had moved away.
