Description

Two booklets "Marple Shopping Areas Improvement Scheme" produced by Haydn W Smith from Taylor Young Partners, Architects.
Setting out terms of reference to prepare a scheme of proposals for the improvement of the Market Street area, work carried out by photographic survey and record of existing conditions. This was to involve the whole of Market Street, the southerly side of Stockport Road from Market Street to Church Street and if deemed advisable, that portion of Church Lane from Willow Grove to Derby Street.
Three drawings showing street elevations/plan and index.
25 black and white photographs showing existing shops and street views. These have become detached from both booklets. (Second set of photographs incomplete.)
The report produced twelve recommendations which included improvements to lighting, railings from the Bull's Head to Holdens, the garden in front of the Trinity Methodist Chapel, the bus shelter barrier. the rough stone wall adjacent to the Pineapple Inn, shop fascias and colour schemes.
