Description

Box file containing miscellaneous artefacts donated to Marple Local History Society. Over 14 small items including:

a. Three medallions enscribed "IN COMMEMORATION OF THE OPENING OF THE MARPLE RECREATION GROUND, THE GIFT OF W. B. HODGKINSON J.P. OCTOBER 8th 1910" commemorating the opening of Marple Recreation Ground, an aluminium one for younger children and a bronze one for older children. Two donated by Stephen Till left by his grandfather Wilfred Ratcliffe. The aluminium medal may have belonged to one of his sisters Beatrice or Elsie One aluminium medal donated by Edmund Wilkinson October 1999.

b. A commemorative key from the opening of the Marple Branch of the Compstall Co-Operative Society 1893 presented to Joseph Swindells.

c. 4 Plaques from Marple Boat Rallies : 1966, 67, 69, 70 & Bicentenary of Marple Locks 1804 – 2004 Bicentenary (donated by Peter Clark)

d. Grocery Book for Gore & Wilson of Market Street, Marple belonging to Mrs Ramsay, 212 Ash Cottages covering 1958 – 1965 with weekly shopping items and costs.

e. Cheshire Air Raid Warden Plaque belong to George Taylor of Strines, donated by Rosemary Taylor See Index for further items and their details.
